Digoxin Side Effects

Actavis Totowa, the maker of Digitek, has recently issued a Class 1 recall of Digitek tablets. The Digitek recall (digoxin tablets) was issued because it was discovered the tablets may have been made containing twice the appropriate dose. The tablets, distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, may be purchased under the labels “UDL” or “Bertek.”

Digitek is commonly prescribed to patients suffering from heart failure or arrhythmias. When prescribed correctly, Digitek (digoxin tablets) help the heart beat at a more normal pace. If the user consumes too much Digitek or digoxin, as in the case of the double dose tablets, they become at risk for developing digitalis toxicity – a condition which results in serious side effects, including death.

Overdose Of Digitek Causes Digitalis Toxicity

Overdose amounts of Digitek (or the active ingredient digoxin) results in serious side effects and digitalis toxicity. These side effects are especially dangerous in users who also suffer from renal failure. Renal failure prevents the body from emitting the digitalis at a fast enough rate.

Symptoms of digitalis toxicity include:

  • - Slow heartbeat and/or low blood pressure
    - Irregular heartbeat (including extremely fast heartbeat)
    - Dizziness
    - Vision problems
    - Nausea and/or vomiting
    - Confusion
    - Seziures
    - Hallucinations
    - Additional unusual symptoms

If any of these serious side effects occur while you or a loved one is taking Digitek please seek professional medical help immediately. It is these serious side effects which have sparked the issuance of a Digitek recall.

Additional Side Effects

Users of Digitek (UDL, Bertek, digoxin) may also experience any of the following side effects while taking the tablets:

  • - Blurred vision, yellow vision, or other vision change
    - Nausea and/or vomiting
    - Diarrhea
    - Loss of appetite
    - Stomach pain
    - Breast development in men
    - Rash
    - Weakness
    - Psychosis
    - Headache

    - Additional side effects may occur
