Why Was Digitek Recalled?

Digitek (Digoxin) tablets were recalled on April 25, 2008 due to the possibility of the production of tablets containing a double dose of the active ingredient Digoxin. Upon learning of the possibility of defective tablets the FDA issued a Class 1 recall of all lots of Digitek (Digoxin) tablets as they pose a risk of making patients seriously ill or causing death.

Digitek tablets are prescribed to patients with heart arrhythmias or heart failures. The active ingredient in Digitek, Digoxin, allows the heart to beat at a stronger, more regular, pace. Unfortunately, when too much Digoxin is consumed (as in the case of the double dose recalled tablets) Digitalis Toxicity may occur.

Digitalis Toxicity occurs when too much Digoxin accumulates in the body. This causes serious side effects and possibly death in patients. Patients suffering from kidney disorders or failure and those who are taking diuretics are at additional risk for developing Digitalis Toxicity as their bodies do not rid themselves of waste at an adequate rate.

Recalled Digitek (Digoxin) tablets appear larger and thicker in size in comparison to safe Digitek tablets. If you believe you may be consuming recalled Digitek tablets or that a loved one is taking recalled Digitek (Digoxin) tablets contact a medical professional immediately.

Recalled Digitek tablets cause serious side effects, Digitalis Toxicity, and death. Anyone affected by the Digitek recall should contact legal advice as soon as possible. The side effects caused by Digitek (Digoxin) can be life altering and deadly, and those affected should receive compensation for their injuries.
